Easton Reserves (1) v (3) Holt Reserves
This was Holt's first league away match of the season and were feeling confident after their fine display against Reepham the following week. Chris Cude had the same players as last week, minus James Meddler and David Thompson. Mark Page showed David Beckham that there is no problem flying back from the USA for a game of footy and returned into the squad. Also on show was Tom Graver for his first outing with Holt Reserves. Chris Cude decided to start with the same line-up that faced Reepham Reserves, with Mark Page and Tom Graver on the bench. Holt once again started brightly and were soon on top of Easton. It was Holt who broke the deadlock first and once again scored very early on. Leigh Wells the provider, by crossing the ball into the pickle barrel, only for Martin Alford to latch onto it and scoring a great half volley in front of goal. Holt knew they could do some real damage to Easton's defense and pushed for another. However Holt found it hard at times to play their nice football, with the ground being very bobbly. Something they are not use to when playing on a bowling green for home matches. Holt's second goal came from a nothing ball up the field, which found the magic feet of Daniel Rouse, who flicked it on to Bret Squire. Bret Squire headed the ball past the defender and choose to ignore (did not look up) Leigh Wells in open space in the area and blasted it past the keeper at near post. At half time Holt were 2-0 up and deserved their lead, even if the football was not their best. Holt were half asleep at the start of the second half and Easton broke down the wing, cut in and scored into the top corner, which with Robin Thaxter's small frame, gave him no chance. Chris Cude decided it was time for a change and took of Adam Smart for Mark Page and Leigh Wells for Tom Graver. Holt Reserves started to calm things down and got their rewards half way through the second half, when Bret Squire chested down for Tom Graver to volley home from twelve yards out. The game was now won for Holt, who just tried to keep ball to kill the game and run the clock down. Another good win for all involved, on a hard playing service. Marty Alford got man of the match for his constant running and hard work all match.
