Gayton United v Holt United
HOLT UNITED PLAY IN THE ANGLIAN COMBINATION DIVISION 1

Gayton United 4-2 Holt United                          29/12/07

HOLT UNITED visited Gayton United with five recognised strikers unable to start the game and made a terrible start when former Holt United player Neale Goodbourne latched on to a good through ball and finished with ease. Holt’s attacking plans were evident and two minutes later they were nearly level when a good cross from Philip Durham was almost forced home by Kevin Moore. Two minutes later more good attacking play was rewarded when Jamie Gilbert scored his first goal for the club when his strength allowed him a run on goal followed by a good finish. Gilbert almost increased his goal tally ten minutes later when he fired narrowly over from a Matthew Sanders cross. After twenty five minutes Holt were dealt a blow when skipper Kevin Moore had to leave the field with a foot injury. Holt almost took the lead a minute after the break but Tom Graver’s effort was just too close to the keeper. But it was Gayton who then took the game with three well taken goals, two more from ex-Owl Goodbourne, to take a 4-1 lead. With fifteen minutes left Toby Blowers, who had been unwell during the night, came on up front. His mobility and pace soon caused Gayton problems and it was he who scored the last goal of the game with a now typical, excellent finish with a touch and sweet volley into the corner of the net giving the home keeper no chance. This 4-2 defeat, in which far too many players were below par, still leaves Holt well in touch with the league’s top sides. With players returning for next week’s visit to Attleborough it is important that the team gets back into winning ways after their first defeat in the league since August.
