Holt A (6) v Hickling Reserves (2)
It was Holt A's turn to get their season rolling and with a very strong looking squad, it was no wonder they are hotly tipped to go straight up. Holt A had plenty of talent on show and just proves how strong each squad is at Holt. Holt A started like a greyhound after the hare and scored minutes into the first half. Paul Massey running at the Hickling defenders and could of had a penalty, with his shirt being pulled. However he kept going and squared the ball to Luke Williamson at the back post, who side footed it in. Holt kept the momentum going and soon scored again. Once again Paul Massey the provider, putting the ball on a plate for James Jarvis. Holt were two up after just nineteen minutes. Holt were all over a try hard Hickling, but Hickling's defenders just could not cope with the constant knocking at the door. Paul Massey once again causing all sorts of problems and scored twice, both times by running at the Hickling defenders, using his pace and strength to get past and then giving the keeper no chance. Holt A looked in fine form and the game was already killed off. However to Hickling's credit they never gave up and caught Holt's defense asleep. Hickling were through on goal, only to be brought down by a Holt defender and awarding themselves a free kick. This was well struck and Tom Bonnet had no chance of saving it. This kicked Holt back into touch and the hard working Robert Rust-Andrews put a through ball into Paul Massey, who found Luke Williamson once again at the back post. A great team move from Holt, which made the score 5-1 at half time. Kevin Web and Jeff Megson were very pleased with the display in the first half and tried to get the team motivated for the second half, which was hard due to the game already won. Holt started the second half with the same team and soon found the open space. This time it was Craig Cutting providing a lovely lob through ball to Paul Massey, who you would bet your mortgage on scoring, after a excellent performance in the first half. He scored and got the hat trick he was after and truly deserved. Holt now 6-1 up, it was time for the coaching staff to make some changes. Off came George Edge, Craig Cutting and Paul Massey and on came Greg Able, David Feetch and Daniel Turner. Holt never stopped working hard for each other, but it was Hickling who scored next. The goal coming from another set piece (corner) and it was Hickling who reacted first. The game finished 6-2 and was a very good display from Holt, who must have other challenges for promotion looking over their shoulders.
