Holt Reserves v Freethorpe
HOLT UNITED PLAY IN THE ANGLIAN COMBINATION DIVISION 1

Holt Reserves 2- 6 Freethorpe

(Junior Cup)

After last week's disappointing loss to lower opposition, Holt wanted to put that behind them and concentrate on the next game. Manager Chris Cude had some strong words to say to his players before the kick-off, asking for more commitment and effort to be seen, which has been lacking from some players. Holt were missing their keeper Vince Peart, who is a big loss to the side, but welcomed back Adam Smart from injury, who was on the bench with Mark Page and Alan Gravenor. Unfortunately Tom Graver and Chris Long were cup tied for this match, so could not take part. Holt did not really have the luck of the draw once again in this competition, drawing Freethorpe, who are sitting joint second in division five. However Holt have already knocked out division three opposition in the previous round, so knew that they had a chance. Holt started of with a terrible start, letting Freethorpe get in behind Holt's defense in the first five minutes to go 1-0 up. Stand in keeper Kevin Webb had no chance of saving it and could only be disappointed with the lack of marking. Holt however took the game to Freethorpe and after a few corners and constant pressure on Freethorpes defense, saw a defender make a mistake and header past his own keeper. Holt seemed to have the upper hand, with Freethorpe arguing amonst each other. Only to see Holt hit the self destruct button and soon saw the game slip away from them, with Freethorpe taking a 4-1 lead. To add to Holt's misery, Gavin Sheridan had to go of and to Hospital with a bad injury to the ribs. Mark Page came on to right back, pushing Adam Smith to center half. In the second half, Holt to their credit kept on battling on, only to see another player (Adam Smith) get injured. On came skipper Adam Smart, who got the team playing again, with some nice football being played. A mistake from Kevin Webb led to Freethorpe getting another, when he mis-throed the ball out, landing to a Freethorpe striker, who tapped it in the open goal. Holt got a consolation goal late on, with Richard (J Lo) Hooker getting his fifth of the season, with another trade mark header from a corner. Freethorpe scored again soon after making the final score 6-2. A disappointing result and think Holt could have done better with the players on show. Holt have got to stop the rot starting with Hoveton next week. Man of the match Micky Thompson, improving every game.
