Holt United 3-0 Dereham Res 17/11/07 HOLT UNITED entertained Dereham Town Reserves looking to add to their unbeaten run of matches going back to August. Manager Jim Blandford made one change to the team which defeated Norwich Union the previous week with Josh Dixon replacing Matthew Sanders who had five stitches in a head wound sustained in that match. Holt started well and soon took the game to Dereham. After ten minutes Billy Edwards opened the scoring with a very well taken goal. Edwards outpaced the Dereham defence to a ball played down the right before cutting inside and scoring with a well placed lob over the head of Mark Camidge in the visitor’s goal. Holt’s pressure continued and David Thompson was unlucky when a powerful header, from a Jason Hawkins’ corner, rebound back into play from the underside of the bar. After twenty five minutes Holt were dealt a blow when skipper Kevin Moore had to leave the field with an ankle injury, he was replaced by Gavin Neale. Play was from end to end and James Medlar had to be at his best to prevent a Dereham attack with a perfectly timed tackle. At the other end good work by Philip Durham and Edwards almost allowed Dixon to score, his effort landing on top of the bar and going over. On the stroke of half time Medlar was once more on hand to save the day with another fine interception. Manager Blandford changed things around at half time and Edwards showed his versatility by sitting in the middle of the midfield with the excellent, ageless, Hawkins with Dixon going up front. On the hour mark Toby Blowers replaced Dixon. Holt extended their lead on seventy five minutes when Hawkins provided another excellent corner for Colm McGilway to help on to the inrushing David Thompson to score. Allan Gravenor came on for Holt to make his long awaited return after a long injury lay off with ten minutes remaining. Immediately after this Blowers robbed a defender of the ball, made tracks towards the visitor’s goal before laying the ball to McGilway to score. This was an excellent result and an excellent performance from Holt in which James Medlar must have played one of his best games for the club looking strong and sound all match. Jason Hawkins, who has been playing well all season, commanded the midfield with another superb performance.
