Holt United v Loddon
HOLT UNITED PLAY IN THE ANGLIAN COMBINATION DIVISION 1

Holt United 2-1  Loddon United

27/10/07

Holt United entertained unbeaten Loddon United and put in a very workmanlike performance to take all three points by winning 2-1. Holt started very brightly and pegged Loddon back for long periods of the game. Against the run of play Loddon took the lead following some hesitancy in the Holt defence. Holt then had the ball in the back of the net when Billy Edwards recovered after having the keeper dive full length at his feet to handle the ball some twenty five yards out of goal, to push the ball into the unguarded net. To everyone’s surprise the referee gave Holt the freekick for handball, disallowed the goal and cautioned the goalkeeper, who, by reports, already had his gloves off expecting, as everybody else did, a red card. Holt continued to press hard and a fine header from David Thompson from a corner levelled the scores. Holt pressed hard throughout the match playing some excellent football but having shots blocked, cleared off the line and rebounding off the woodwork. It was not until two minutes from time that they scored the goal their play deserved when a good cross from Edwards was headed home by Colm McGilway. This was another very good performance from Holt in which James Medlar and David Thompson at the back looked sound throughout and Edwards and McGilway caused the visitors problems all afternoon. The benefit of a strong bench was also seen when injuries forced David Thompson and Philip Durham out of the game Chris English and Josh Dixon replaced them, showed their quality and played their part in the win.
