Holt United v Wells Town
HOLT UNITED PLAY IN THE ANGLIAN COMBINATION DIVISION 1

Holt United 1v 0 Wells Town

19/10/07

After a good run of results for Holt, it has steadily moved them up the table and a win against Wells Town would see them move into second place before the rest of the weekend's fixture list had been played. Holt had to face a strong, physical side in Wells, who had previously beaten Holt 3-0 in the first game of the season. This game would prove how far Holt have progressed in a short space of time, depending on the result. Holt had new signings Billy Edwards and Gavin Neale on show, who have settled in nicely. The game started with frantic pace and no player was allowed much time on the ball. Holt looked the more threatening of the two teams, with Phil Durham playing in some lovely balls from the right wing. However these half chances were not taken, with the Wells keeper also making some good saves. Holt's best chance of the half fell to Josh Dixon, who broke down the right wing and then cutting in, leaving two defenders for dead, only to see his clean cut shot brilliantly saved once again by the Wells keeper, who looked in fine form. Holt's defense never really looked in trouble all half, with James Medlar Marshalling the back four. The second half was very much the same, with both teams rushing on the ball, knowing that one goal would probably be enough to secure the win and the vital three points. The deadlock was finally broken, when after a goal mouth scramble in the Wells area, saw the ball fall to the feet of Jason Hawkins, who calmly picked out Billy Edwards to slot the ball home under the new 'Roly High Stand'. Manager Jim Blandford brought on his subs (Chris English/Toby Blowers), knowing that the fresh legs would be vital to see out the win. Toby Blowers caused problems with his lightning pace as soon as he came on, running at the Wells defenders and proving what a force he is and will be at the tender age of just sixteen. Holt secured the win and deservedly so, with Wells never really threatening throughout the match. Some great partnerships on show throughout the whole team, but none more so than Jason Hawkins and Kevin Moore in the center of the park, looking solid all game. My man of the match goes to Jason Hawkins, who just like a good bottle of plonk, just gets better with age
