In the opening period of their match against Attleborough Town HOLT UNITED played some of their best football of the season putting the visitors under severe pressure. Colm McGilway and Josh Dixon were a constant thorn in the visitor’s side as their hard work and deft touches so often almost brought reward. Philip Durham looked dangerous all half, getting in some telling crosses, and included a scintillating run at the visitor’s defence followed by a shot that narrowly missed an upright. Matthew Sanders on the left had an effort rebound from the woodwork and a good effort well blocked by Wells in the visitor’s goal. Despite Holt’s constant pressure they were unable to open their account until five minutes before the break. Dixon was sent clear and as Wells approached he cleverly lifted the ball over him into the empty net. Unfortunately the good work of the opening period was not carried into the second half and Holt started quietly allowing Attleborough to get back into the game. Holt still had their chances including a powerful shot from Sanders rebounding off the crossbar. After sixty five minutes Durham was forced to leave the game and was replaced by new signing from Sheringham, Billy Edwards. After only two minutes of his season’s debut Edwards delivered a deep cross for Kevin Moore to make no mistake with an efficient header giving Wells no chance. Moments later it could have been three when Edwards headed wide when well placed. Attleborough stuck to their guns and scored a consolation goal with a well struck shot from Andy McKenzie with a minute left. Holt must be very pleased with the form shown early in the game, however the second half performance left much to be desired.
