Hoveton Wherrymen v Holt Reserves
HOLT UNITED PLAY IN THE ANGLIAN COMBINATION DIVISION 1

Hoveton Wherrymen (4) v (0) Holt Reserves            27/10/07

Holt Reserves have found themselves slipping down the league table, like a Helter Skelter ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. However the Division Six table is very tight this year, with not much points separating the teams. Holt had another hard fixture against a very good Hoveton side, who have added house hold names to their already experienced squad. Holt were without two key defenders (Gavin Sheridan and Adam Smith), who were both out and will be for a few weeks to come due to injuries. However Chris Long and Tom Graver were back in the squad following being cup tied the week prior. Holt also had the very experienced Vince Peart back between the sticks. Manager Chris Cude decided to change the formation to a 5-3-2 system, to allow for the players that he had. The plan was simple, keep things nice and tight and don't allow the Hoveton players time on the ball. The system seemed to be working and Hoveton could not get behind the Holt's defense. However it was one of Hoveton's more experienced and dangerous players who worked his magic and beat three Holt players and to bend in a great goal round the big frame of Peart. Holt were very aware of the danger men in Hovetons side and tried to man mark them. However the same player scored again, with Holt having to put their hands up, with nothing they could have done to prevent the goal, which was a cracking strike from outside the area. At half time Holt found themselves 2-0 down and were determined to battle on and try to get something in the second half. Daniel Rouse had to come off with an injury and Ben Hopper came on, pushing Bret Squire upfront. Holt started the better of the two sides and started to look threatening in front of goal. The Holt players were also getting more stuck in, winning more balls in the air and on the deck. Peart was outstanding in the second half, coming of his line on numerous occasions, to sweep up the through balls played in by Hoveton. It was the same player who scored again, completing his hat trick. Holt knew that goal was very important and if Holt had scored it, they may have had Hoveton rattled. However it was not to be and Cude decided to take himself off and bring on Martin Alford, who has impressed this season. Hoveton finished of their scoring late on in the second half, when a player was not picked up from a corner, which was very sloppy from Holt. Thanks to the Hoveton manager, who had to ref the game and did a good job. Man of the match goes to Vince Peart, who is a key player in Holt's side.
