HOLT UNITED made the long trip to Scole anticipating a hard encounter. Holt were without David Thompson and suffered a blow when in form substitute Toby Blowers was injured in the warm up which later restricted their options. Holt, against a freshening wind, took a long while to settle into their game and seemed happy to contain Scole in the first half. This almost proved to be the case but the deadlock was broken with three minutes of the half remaining when Scole took the lead with a stunning drive from twenty five yards. Holt, with the advantages of the slope and the wind in their favour tried to take the game to the home team but found themselves up against a resolute defence. Scole increased their lead after fifteen minutes of the half leaving Holt a lot to do. With Jason Hawkins and skipper Kevin Moore becoming more prominent Holt started to get on top and it was no surprise when Holt pulled one back. A good cross from Steven Thompson, who again played well, was headed home in style by Moore as he rose between two defenders. Five minutes later Holt were level. Moore set Philip Durham free at the edge of the box and his precision shot flew into the top corner. It was all Holt for the next ten minutes but the winning goal would not come. Colm McGilway, who had had a good game throughout, went close as did fellow striker Josh Dixon. With ten minutes left Moore had to leave the game due to injury and was replaced by Danny Nairn. The game ended all square, which was perhaps a fair result although Holt must have thought they were capable of going home with all three points.
